Horsebridge Whitstable 2023

In February 2023 I exhibited my projects The Fabric of Memory and Tales from the Silk Factory at the Horsebridge in Whitstable.

This first project in the Tales from the Silk Factory collection, which is evolving as a multi-medium body of work including photography, video installation and creative non-fiction, is a small series of minimalist images depicting key aspects or stories of childhood and adolescence in communist Romania of the 1980s. More about the project here.

The Fabric of Memory explores the intricate connections between the material world (nature, place, physical objects) and memory, as well as the closely-interwoven and elusive notion of home. The story I am capturing is very personal and mostly non-linear, like a stream of consciousness, an attempt to recollect a memory or the ambiguity of a dream. There is a constant dialogue between past and present, as well as a deep tension between the feelings of familiarity and those of estrangement – emerging at every step and competing for supremacy. More about the project here.
